Jewelry Safes Are Just The Beginning

Protecting your valuables from theft or damage is important but not something that most people think about beyond purchasing basic jewelry safes or hiding them in the sock drawer, but it should be. Nearly everyone has a prized possession, a gift from a significant other or loved one, or family heirlooms that they would be simply devastated to loose, and all the more so if that loss is due to carelessness. This is why it is so important to put some thought in to how you protect your valuables and ensure that they will be there to pass on to future generations to come.

Jewelry safes are a great start to protecting your valuables, but they should not be the only defense in place. Installing a burglar alarm can be a great deterrent to a home invader ever stepping foot inside your house, and it severely limits the time they have to ransack the place if they do. This is a great companion security measure to a good safe, and should not be overlooked.

Additionally, choosing the right safe is also very important. Smaller safes are easy to conceal in your home, but they are also easier to simply pick up and walk away with. Don’t underestimate a determined criminal, they will rip a safe right out of your wall. This is why heavy safes are a good investment, or a floor safe on the ground floor, preferably anchored in concrete. Both of these options are much more difficult to remove and run away with, and the floor safe is just as concealable as a small wall safe (yet not anchored in drywall).

These little tips can save you a whole world of trouble and heartache, but they are only the beginning. There are many other important factors to consider before buying a safe, too, such as independent ratings and the ability to withstand a fire. Take these basic precautions, do your homework, and choose wisely.
